Educational Field Trip To The Serenity Botanical Library and Garden

Post placeholder image

Botanical means a facility where trees and shrubs are cultivated for exhibition. The Serenity Botanical Library/Garden, Gandhinagar, which we visited on 13th October 2022, has a collection of 3000+ books on flora and fauna and 2000+ plants as well. We were firstly introduced to our guides and we were given a few tips for bird watching then we went in groups with our respective guides for the trip. We were initially taken to a pond where we spotted a “Water Hen” which is black and white bird with a little red colour near the starting of the beak after which we saw a “Little Grebe” which is another bird with cream and brown coloured body with a bit reddish neck and a white colour patch near its beak. We were told to go individually for bird watching during which we saw a family of owls and went to a pond full of water lilies surrounded by a variety of plants including the Indian coral tree (Erythrina variegate) and the stone apple (Aegle marmelos correa). We then went to the Audio-Visual room where we saw the four stages of life of a butterfly in detail and also an animated video in which we were shown how we humans are harming the animals and the nature. Overall, we did more than enjoy the trip; we learnt from it.
