THE LIFE OF A TEEN – SELF WRITTEN POEM BY RASHI SINGH
THE LIFE OF A TEEN
A girl happily skipped down the lanes
Her hair tied in two pigtails
The next day was her birthday and she was going to book the cake
She was going to be 13, she just couldn’t wait
It’s all that excitement, diffusing in the air
Those new legal social media accounts and that adult ticket at the fair
At the start,
Life is a tiny sprout whose every leaf matters
Grows into a seeding who copes with water loss
Then, a sapling, not fully mature yet expected to flower and fruit
After a perpetuity of frustration, a mature tree
What’s so special about 13??
A sudden question from friends
“What will be your stream??”
A MCQ from relatives
“What is your dream??”
Dor truly they give only a few choices
Engineer and doctor
And perhaps a lawyer or teacher
What’s so special about 13??
“Dear… Literature cannot be your favourite subject now. It should be Math or Science.”
The same people who once said
“Of course you love literature. You always read between the lines.”
A kid wants to become a fashion designer, completely normal they say
A teen wants to become one and eyes go red, acquiring the power to slay.
What’s so special about 13??
A child is taken care of by parents and is completely free
While a teen is handed the reins of his life’s entirety
What is, after all, so special about teens????
