PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!!  

An enriching talk was given at St. Kabir School, Drive-in New branch, on 16th August on swine flu and cancer by Doctor Matib Rangoonwala, Mr. Neerav Thakkar and Ms. Paheli Bhatt from HCG hospital.

Students from class 8,9,10 and 11 attended a session on awareness and precaution of current swine flu epidemic as well as deadly cancer disease. The oration started off with the emphasis on relation of health and hygiene.

Students recapped how health & hygine go hand-in-hand and how good health is result of good hygine.

Dr.Rangoonwala then went on to share with them the methods of precaution of swine flu its stages & symptoms. He warned them against maintaining physical contact with patients and advised them to regularly wash their hands. The symptoms, he mentioned, included fever, cold and cough.“Symptoms are required to” he voiced. Isolation was the first step to observed when symptoms were noted. This lecture was followed by interactive question-answer round where students cleared their doubts regarding topic. 

 Next, he briefed them on cancer and its causes, symptoms and treatments. The Students attention was entirely captured when he explained how smoking was the main cause of cancer. Smoking causes irritation to the cancer. He strongly counseled them to pledge against smoking and spread awareness. This discourse too, was followed by a complementary discussion, where many students raised queries which the doctor gladly answered .This was a truly enlightening experience, from which the teachers and students gained alike. The students was extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity.

 Later the boys were addressed and explained about urinal hygiene. The main cause of the stink in the washrooms was due to the problem of not flushing the urinals. Dr. Rangoonwala explained like charity begins at home, healthy habits should also begin at home. He advised the students to wash hands after they urinate. Hygiene is our responsiblity and can’t be blamed on anyone for neglect.

The session ended with a vote of thanks to the doctors for their kind involvement in a social cause.
