DIGI – THEATRE A SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT AT DIGI – THEATRICS BY ST. KABIR SCHOOL, NARANPURA

Role plays, skits or dramas are one of favourite modes of teaching as well as learning. St Kabir School, Naranpura came up with a novel way of celebrating World Theatre Day on 27th March by conducting an online Inter House Drama competition for students of Classes 6 to 9. The event becomes more significant because each of the three Honourable Judges were the alumni of the St. Kabir School and are now established names in the fields of advertisement, TV serials and Gujarati Theatre and Film world. Mr Rajan Lodha is the founder of advertising agency RYL based in Mumbai. Ms Janki Dave is a senior associate editor at Republic India. Mr Devarshi Shah has acted in Gujarati films as well as Hindi TV serials. Their presence added a special flavour to the whole event.

An interesting aspect of this Digi – Theatre was that the students were given the freedom to select the theme and write scripts of their own. And this theatre experience became adventurous when students played their roles without gathering under a roof for presenting their drama. The physical distance wasn’t thought as a hindrance but Kabirians learnt appropriate utilization of technology and every student shot his specific role at their own places using symbolic props and backdrops. Tough situations inspire and motivate to creatively innovate; they strengthen the zealous efforts. Students realized that compiling their short video clips into a continuous flow of scenes required set up of digi-techno teams. This aspect enabled students to upgrade their technical skills and then compile the video clips of the entire cast as one video-film as if all actors were performing at the same venue. Kabirians were elated that they now know how to add audio – visual (virtual) effects to their videos.

The drama teams were appreciated for the choice of socially relevant themes like “generation gap”, “artificial intelligence v/s family indulgence, service to mankind is service to God. Judges applauded students by conferring accolades for Best Actor to Pratham Soni as well as Muskan Khemani, Best Techno team to Emerald House & Topaz House and Best Play to Sapphire House & Ruby House. All the students from Naranpura enjoyed watching this online competition on YouTube live and simultaneously it instilled within them the spirit of “Never Give Up”. The competitive zeal to present the best for the Inter- House Competition, under the able guidance of Principal Mrs Rashmi Trivedi and continuous encouragement by the Supervisors and Computer teachers, helped Kabirians to put their best foot forward, overcoming all the obstacles.
