A JOURNEY BACK IN TIME FOR KABIRIAN’S

Students of standard 9th, from St. Kabir School Naranpura, on the 6th of January 2020 started off to an illuminating journey to Lothal, the mound of dead which is located at a distance of 80 km from Ahmedabad. Archaeologists discovered the ruins of Lothal in 1954 and it has been a popular historical destination ever since.  The students started off at 7:20 am and after a drive of two hours, finally reached the famous excavation sight.  There they firstly viewed a spellbinding documentary on how the life of people in that time had been … and how even before 5000 years the people were so civilized and cultured.

Students also saw the Archaeological Museum in Lothal where more than 5000 artifacts were excavated at the site .There they also clapped eyes on the excavated site; the ruins of oldest dockyard in the world, the Upper town where key officials lived.  It also included a well for potable water.  Next was the lower town which housed the common man and consisted of both commercial and residential spaces.

Straightaway after, the next stop was the Acropolis of Ahmedabad- Sarkhej Roza. And although there are many rozas across Gujarat, the roza at Sarkhej is the most revered. It exhibits a composite “Indo-Saracenic” architecture. The beautiful Sarkhej Lake with sluice stone cut steps is beautiful and adds to serene beauty of the place. Here the students saw the tomb of Mahmud Begada , his son and his queen Rajbai which looks quite magical as the light falls through the patterns of the walls surrounding the tomb .it really shows the long journeys India has been through and the beauty that lies in it .

This trip really veered the interest of students in the rich history and culture of India while enjoying it at the fullest.
